DESIGN TOOLS

TASK:
Design six unique icons to be used as visual markers allowing site visitors to distinguish between six different regions in which Internet Society focuses on.
ACTION:
Read and understand Internet Society’s branding guide to design mock-ups that convey their brand.
RESULT:
Designed all six icons which were uploaded to Internet Society’s website.

Internet Society promotes the development of the Internet as a global technical infrastructure. To achieve their goal, they’ve included on their site six unique subject areas:

  • Building trust online
  • Advancing Indigenous connectivity
  • Leading Internet of Things security
  • Promoting a healthy Internet
  • Shaping the future
  • Supporting young leaders

The reached out to me to design six icons, each representing one of the subject areas. The icons are visual markers that help site visitors to distinguish at-a-glance between the six different subject areas.

A major design challenge was that each icon have to adhere to Internet Society’s strict branding guidelines. To successfully complete the project I followed these steps:

  1. Fully understand project goals and objectives.
  2. Read the branding guidelines multiple times to fully understand the Internet Society brand.
  3. Create Illustrator templated symbol objects based on the branding guides.
  4. Incorporate the symbol objects into each icon to ensure each icon adhered to branding guidelines

The icons were successful and helped to increase site visitors comprehension levels.
